Chicago is loaded with attractions for tourists and locals alike. Not all of these sites are excluded to museums, but instead many exhibits dot the streets of the city. The public displays help to add life to the city and work to define ever day experiences downtown. The map below showcases 15 of these public exhibits.

Google Trends: Amazon Burning, Kim Kardashian Holds Higher Interest

Wildfires are not uncommon at this time of year in the Amazon, but they are not free from human influence. In Brazil alone, there were nearly three times as many wildfires in this August as previous August. These fires are primarily associated with deforestation for agriculture and cattle production. These fires hold a huge implication for the state of our planet given the large quantities of carbon dioxide created not only by the fires, but also by the cattle industry.

Despite the worldwide implications of these fires on the climate, they do not garner much attraction on google. They experienced an initial spike in interest on August 22, 2019, but shortly after viewers tuned out and maintained an interest with influencers and celebrities, like Kim Kardashian.

It would appear that pop stars easily overshadowed the fires even within the countries which they affected the most. Brazil is ranked the lowest in search interest for the Amazonian wildfires despite the huge implications the fires hold for the country. With the smoke of the fires smothering Sao Paulo, Brazil it is necessary for Brazil and other nations to address the matter at hand.

Social Media Likely Shifting Trends

Myspace is a social networking website launched on August 1, 2003. It saw relative success throughout the beginning of its career, but as other competitors hit the market it became harder to keep up.

With the rise of other sites based on social connection, like, Facebook and Youtube, Myspace saw a dramatic decline in searches. This change can be attributed primarily to format and community preferences. With new means of establishing connection, the need to tolerate accessibility issues associated with the coding of a Myspace page became less prevalent.

From this map, it is clear that Facebook dominates the market in the United States. This current domination does not indicate continued popularity within the country. As seen with MySpace, social media rise and fall with with time and new media. Only time will tell if Facebook will stand up to its future competitors.
